"Cindy Lee is a Durham, North Carolina-based songwriter, performer, and recording artist known worldwide as one of the last great torch singers and as a living guitar legend. A transient drag queen and dangerous drifter hellbent on corrupting the youth of America. They have sold out of every album they've ever made, each record a bold landmark in the history of pop music. After 4 releases with the Superior Viaduct label (Suicide, DEVO, Alice Coltrane, Ennio Morricone) they now self-release thru "Realistik Studios". Beautiful and compelling Pop tracks and L-I-T-E torch ballads in the great tradition of Roy Orbison, Ros Sereysothea, Gloria Ann Taylor, and Patsy Cline. A blurring of fiction and reality is a theme, apparent in the contrast between grandiose pop ambitions and amateur recording techniques."
"For more than a decade, Freak Heat Waves have been steadily amassing a cult following and garnering acclaim from both critics and underground aficionados alike. Their music is a heady cocktail that defies any attempts at easy categorization, incorporating elements of post-punk, psych, dub, ambient, house, and techno. Their four LP discography has served as the soundtrack to countless DIY punk shows, outsider galleries and sleazy discos, establishing the Freaks as real-deal music makers with a reputation for evolving their sound, subverting conventions and ignoring expectations. At times, the term ‘acquired taste’ may seem fitting, but with their latest release, "Mondo Tempo," courtesy of Vancouver’s Mood Hut Collective, the duo offer their most succinct and alluring album yet. Building on the experimentation of their previous record, “Zap The Planet” (Telephone Explosion Records), the duo doubles down on their foray into electronic music and injects their signature sound with a smooth and sweet blend of dance music. With their latest release Freak Heat Waves cement their reputation as one of the most exciting and visionary acts around."
If the names Amber Sermeno, Andy Jordan & Stanley Martinez sound familiar, it's because they're in practically every band that matters from the SF/Bay area, A short list reads; Non Plus Temps, Children Maybe Later, Naked Roommate & not the least of which is Famous Mammals. Following a self-released cassette, 'Instant Pop Expressionism Now!' is their 1st full length vinyl effort & man is it a doozy. On their debut tape the seeds were sown for what has blossomed on this LP as a fully pollinated orchard of hybridized post punk that seemingly harkens back to the halcyon days when Rough Trade called 202 Kensington Park Road home. "Instant Pop Expressionism Now!" is an ultramodern polyglot of smatterings that at once sound familiar, but you can't quite place it. Swell Maps? Happy Refugees? Monochrome Set? Maybe. Kinda. It's in the stitching, but the design & thrust is all Famous Mammals. And while we're not prone to hubris, we are confident that 'Instant Pop Expressionism Now!' will be the hit lp of the summer everywhere from Sooty's Disco Party to Gus' Hotdog Hootenanny. If you know, you know, It's not too late to hop on board. The more the merrier.
