Abracadabra 80s influenced synth pop combo featuring members of Maus Haus and Cassiopeia.
"There’s a wonderfully deadpan, stylised quality to this new single from Abracadabra. It’s pure 80s synth pop – the good kind where robots and fashion were the future, Kraftwerk were kings and neon was a colour. There’s also a playfulness to the their music, a day-glo utopian sound built on lush washes of keyboards such as The Fairlight CMI and pulsing, robotic drums. It’s like Stereolab and Cabaret Voltaire jamming on the international space station.” - Doubtful Sounds.net
Ari Blaisdell and Matt Jones are System Exclusive: a Pasadena based two piece band bearing an armful of mini synths, making heart-throbbing capital P pop cut with more than a hint of post-punk. Blaisdell’s vocals hearken back to openhearted 80’s hitmakers unafraid to quaver in the name of love, and they’re buoyed by Jones’ laser-gridded synth concoctions and heavy hand on the ones and twos.
Gorgeous Dykes sound incorporates elements of house, new wave, post-punk and funk, culminating in something akin to experimental synth pop. They make music that celebrates being yourself and being proud of that - a direct, “fuck you,” to transphobes, lesbophobes and misogynists who would be all too happy to see the marginalized anguish in insecurity and obscurity. They hope their songs uplift and inspire those in need and those who just want to have a good time.
