Aquarian Blood (Memphis) - June 2024 "Counting Backwards Again" tour

Aquarian Blood on tour this June in support of their new and 4th album, Counting Backwards Again.

Aquarian Blood started as a home recording project for partners Laurel and JB Horrell. In the 10 years since they started, the live band has varied from a duo to as many as 7 people. Both live and on record, the songs range from atmospheric acoustic pieces to extended full band jams. Capable of feral synthesizer-infused punk rock as well as spare, whisper-quiet acoustic music rooted in blues, folk, and gospel, Aquarian Blood have carved out their own sound.

Very much a part of the Memphis underground scene that crossbreeds punk and roots music, the group’s first single, as well as the their first three LPs, were released on Goner Records. Spring 2024 brings the release of Aquarian Blood’s fourth lp “Counting Backwards Again” on Black&Wyatt Records, also Memphis, TN, in conjunction with Beluga Records from Sweden and Head Perfume Records from Germany. The tracks are some of their most primitive recordings to date, but also some of their most personal. After a busy live schedule in 2023 playing everywhere from festivals to river boat cruises, the band has pared down to a new 5 member lineup, featuring former and current members of Ex-Cult, NOTS, and Optic Sink, to tour the latest releases featuring both new favorites and old classics.

“Essential avant-folk from Memphis!” - Goner

“Aquarian Blood play country and folk with a heavy mind-altering dose of psychedelia.” - Rolling Stone

"Aquarian Blood has taken a surprising turn over the last half decade, moving away from the raving punk rock of their previous bands (Ex-Cult and NOTs, respectively) and their first couple of records, into a haunted, elemental goth blues. This combination of fluid, pretty folk guitar with woozy vocals and a sense of stark, rhythmic urgency persists in various combinations and various shades of light and darkness.” - Dusted
