Oog Bogo, Axis: Sova, Dream Mega at The Knockout -- EARLY SHOW!

EARLY SHOW! 5pm-9pm, $12. 21+

Oog Bogo
The wanderings of Oog Bogo wind up on the same island of lost joys, manufacturing a virtual jukebox of singles and side flips that won’t unplug, and just keep reeling and raging on instead. A bright metallurgy of guitar pop, psyched post-punk and apocalypse disco.

Axis: Sova

Denizens of the Chicago rock underground for over a damn decade, Axis: Sova began as the performing pseudonym for guitarist Brett Sova and his TR-66 Rhythm Arranger drum machine creating lo-fi, psyched-out sonics. Over time and across several albums for God?/Drag City, the entity morphed and mutated in size and sound, expanding to a 3-piece power unit that toured across the USA and Europe, their pop-sense crystalizing over and over, continuously shattered by break-neck guitar solos.

Since their last full-length album, Shampoo You, the Axis: Sova vibe has shifted further from lengthy guitar duels over static, mechanized beats to tightly wound, direct and propulsive blasts of post-punk and hook-laden noise. Their new album, Blinded By Oblivion (coming October 6th, on God? Records), is the first to feature human drummer extraordinaire, Josh Johannpeter, accompanying colossal low-end mainstay Jeremy Freeze (bass), the aforementioned singer and shredder Brett Sova, and their array of drum machines. Produced by Ty Segall at Harmonizer Studios, Blinded By Oblivion is often ferocious and consistently catchy, rolled tight with high-energy construction. Icy lyrical perspectives, rendered in a sunshiny natural paradise (the clash of industrial steel and indelible nature is sonically palpable), transmit the fun and fraud of human polarities with urgency and an occasional eye roll - it's the human condition, and we're all Blinded By Oblivion.

DREAM_MEGA is the project of Los Angeles-based artist/musician Joel Kyack, whose sound merges analog synthesizers and noise with wind-based instruments like the hulusi, khlui and voice, all filtered through a sweat-soaked fever dream of real-time improvisation, manipulation and looping. As a founding member and drummer with the Providence, RI band Landed (Vermiform, Load, Corleone, Hospital), Kyack helped craft a particular style of heavy, groove-based chaos that is oft-referenced in his upcoming debut LP “Last Glacial Maximum” (out on Post Present Medium April 21, mixed by Kyack and John Dwyer), mutated here into a dark, stoned-out vision for a dystopian future. His EP "minus_world" and 7-inch "Danny Turns 10" were released by Post Present Medium in 2021 and 2022 respectively. He is a past member of Six Finger Satellite and Megafuckers.
